An Irish company builds on years of experience and continues to expand in these tough recessionary times
June 2009

Kylemore Foods Group, one of Ireland’s longest established indigenous food companies, have been awarded five prestigious catering contracts in the last nine months and are now serving customers in The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School, three sites for Bank of Scotland Ireland, St Francis Hospice Raheny and Quinn Healthcare Group Cork.

Kylemore’s retail restaurants have also received a boost with a recent investment of €700,000 in its O’Connell Street restaurant which has been totally revamped giving it a fresh new modern look, helping it grow and expand its daytime operations. The O’ Connell Street restaurant has “bucked the trend” and has experienced an increase in footfall in 2009 of 9% as customers seek out quality and value format meals. Michael Gleeson, Chief Operating Officer, says that our hot food business has expanded well with our “€4.95 breakfast deal”, which is an Irish Breakfast with tea or coffee and toast, and our “€9.95 lunch deal” which is a carvery meal with potatoes and veg – both breakfast and lunch activity have grown in 2009 and we are happy that we have got a quality offer at a great price for customers.

The O’Connell street restaurant revamp has also enabled for it to expand into an evening time table service trade and this has been well received by customers and is very popular with tourists. The O’Connell street restaurant opens until 10pm from Thursday to Sunday.

To continue expanding and developing in these tough times is a great feat for any company and can only be achieved by keeping a close eye on the consumer and giving them a true value offering.  ‘We are still serving the same traditional fare of hearty homely food we all long for in these times of change, but experience has shown us how to give real value to the customer’. ‘We carry our experience in the retail environment through to our contract catering business and that assists us win contracts.’ he continues. As a company we are working relentlessly at developing our operations and controlling costs and we are delighted that clients are seeing this focus and awarding us new business – we believe we can clearly offer an improved catering service with reduced cost.

It is also very encouraging to be expanding and creating new jobs during these difficult times for the Irish economy.

With a few more contracts in the pipeline and Kylemore O’Connell Street taking off as the place to be for a glass of wine and casual dinner by the Spire we certainly haven’t seen the last of Kylemores expansion yet.
